Researching the fringes of AI via silence

As artificial intelligence increasingly permeates education and the arts, its role oscillates between a tool of innovation and a source of epistemic noise. AI-generated content, from automated grading systems to generative art and music, promises efficiency and accessibility. But there are crucial blind spots in these systems. My concern is in the (lack) of silence available through these models. Most AI systems—whether for text, music, or image generation—are optimized for completion, prediction, and production rather than intentional absence. An innate horror vacui is built into these systems. In order to address this concern, I have been experimenting with tricking, adapting, pushing, prompting, and twisting AI models to create experiences of silence.
